Science Story Publication

Journalist - Videographer - Editor - Web Designer
During a two-term journalism production class, I researched and produced a short documentary about the Holiday Farm Fire that burned east of Eugene, Oregon, during the Labor Day Fire event of 2020. In addition to researching and creating the video “Fire in the McKenzie River Valley,” I also created an interactive map to visualize where and what the fire burned - viewable on the “Map It Out” page.
At the end of the term, I collaborated with professor Torsten Kjellstrand and two students from the class to create a website for hosting the class’s stories. After creating the website for the initial release, I worked with Brian Storm, founder of media platform MediaStorm, to move the publication to the interactive site the stories are currently shared through.
TWO YEARS LATER… I returned to the class to lead the creation of a new website for the storytelling publication. With feedback from students and professors, I created an interactive site using Wordpress with search engine capabilities and created a Mapbox and HTML-coded map that allows users to navigate to story pages via a dynamic map as well.
