Painting A Record

Producer - Photographer - Videographer - Writer - Editor

How will we remember them when they’re gone? Artist David Rosenthal, by painting arctic landscapes for the past four decades, has amassed a beautiful archive of glacial retreat across Alaska. In his home studio in Cordova, Alaska, he blends memories with series of sketches to relay the distinct hues of blues, oranges, and yellows that he sees in the ice to audiences across the globe.

The video will play in the film festival for the 2023 AK Forum, a gathering for people impacting Alaska’s environment, and was released on the United States Forest Service social media pages.

“It’s not just the eight to twenty hours of work that I have in this painting, it’s 45, 50 years of experience that goes in it.”

— David Rosenthal
